The Closing Reminders In Revelation
Text: Revelation 22:14-21
Reflection and Question: Like a great preacher leaving the pulpit, the writer of Revelation throws out the most important point as he waves goodbye. For him and his listeners there are the blessed who accept Jesus and receive “a share in the tree of life and in the holy city.” And there are those outside the gates, including even those in the church who try to add to or subtract from the message of the book. John’s laser focus is on bolstering the courage of the faithful so he ends, “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.” In what ways do we need this same kind of encouragement now?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, we seek to follow the bright morning star. We yearn to take the water of life and to enter the blessed city through the main gates. Find us worthy to receive these gifts and then show us how to serve You to Your eternal glory. Amen.
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
